Heatwave newsflash – new record temperature for Epping

The Weather Station run by Epping Town Council has logged the hottest day in our 38 years of records, with a quite astonishing series of readings.

The previous record of the hottest ever day was of 37.9°C on 10th August 2003. This was broken on Monday 18th July 2022 with a high of 38.8°C, and this was exactly matched again by the peak on Tuesday 19th. The overnight period in between recorded our warmest ever minimum at 22.9°C, which broke the record previously set at 22°C in July 1983 (in those days temperatures were recorded to the nearest degree).

It’s looking likely that this July will also be the warmest month, and unless rain arrives soon, one of the driest on record. Keep checking back with us for news of that!
